ARCO award mention

ORDAZ ESTUDIO DE ARQUITECTURA, awarded with a Mention in the ARCO 2023 AWARD, organized by the Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Almería.

The Official College of Architects of Almeria has held this afternoon a new edition of the ‘ARCO Awards’, which since 1980, put in value the best architectural works executed or projected in the province of Almeria. The president of the Provincial Council, Javier A. García, closed this new edition of these awards, which he presided over together with the dean, Luis Cano, the councilor of Urban Planning of the City of Almería, Eloísa Cabrera, and the subdelegate of the Government in Almería, José María Martín.

ORDAZ ESTUDIO DE ARQUITECTURA has received a Mention in the Residential category for the building of garages, premises and 10 dwellings located at Avda. Federico García Lorca, corner with Calle Gimenez Canga-Argüelles.

Respecting the proportions of a classical building, the project acquires a contemporary quality by generating a louvred front facing La Rambla de Almería, which allows solar control from inside the building on the west-facing elevation.

In this building there is a great typological variety in the proposal of dwellings with very different programs on the second and attic floors. The parking lot and part of the commercial space, which is developed on four floors, are located below ground level.

The volumetry is defined by the treatment of the exterior envelope, modulated by a grid of orthogonal lines resolved with limestone.

The building’s skin adapts to the different orientations, maximizing the entry of natural light and optimizing thermal comfort through solar control glazing.

The winner of the Arco Prize in this section was the architect Alberto Campo Baeza, winner of the National Architecture Prize.
